Sheriff Fires His Deputy One Minute After Losing Election To Him

It only took a South Dakota sheriff one minute to exact revenge on the man who he lost his re-election bid to – his own deputy.

After losing in a landslide vote, soon to be former Bon Homme County Sheriff, Lenny Gramkowtook, took just one minute to send an email to Deputy Sheriff Mark Maggs and FIRED him after the polls closed.

Maggs received an email at 7:01 pm written in all CAPS that read,

“Mark Maggs: This letter is to inform you that effective immediately you are terminated from the position of Deputy Sheriff for Bon Homme County. As of this moment you are no longer an employee of Bon Homme County. Please turn in all equipment belonging to Bon Homme County by 5 p.m. on June 6, 2018.”

Maggs posted a picture of the termination letter to Facebook along with the caption, “Here’s the Integrity of Lenny Gramkow.”

If you are curious about the legalities of such a firing, South Dakota is an employment-at-will state where employers can fire subordinates without cause, according to the Associated Press. State sheriffs also have authority to hire and fire employees. So, until he takes his new office in January, former deputy sherriff Mark Maggs is unemployed but in our humble opinion, he won twice.
