With the heartfelt song and video for “Distance”, Wolf makes his debut outside of Van Halen as Mammoth WVH.
I thought “Distance” was an earnest and powerful rock track on its own. But coupled with all these home videos with the late Eddie Van Halen? I know it’s an Internet cliche at this point but holy crap I’M NOT CRYING YOU’RE CRYING.
Here’s what Wolf shared on YouTube about the song and video:
“As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life. I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.” – WVH
Proceeds from “Distance” will be donated to Pop’s favorite charity, Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation MHOpus.org
Wolfgang’s choice of the name Mammoth WVH is a nod to Van Halen’s early history. Before adopting the name Van Halen for the band, they called themselves Mammoth. Wolf also played all the instruments on “Distance”. What do you think of the song?
