VIDEO: Metallica Got Hilariously Censored By Twitch

Metallica’s streaming BlizzCon performance was replaced with elevator music due to a DMCA crackdown.

Gaming giant Blizzard (think ‘World Of Warcraft’) invited Metallica back to perform at BlizzCon for the first time since 2014. And most viewers on Blizzard’s website, YouTube, or Twitch’s main channel caught a solid, modern performance of “For Whom The Bell Tolls”. But viewers on TwitchGaming heard something very different.

Twitch die-hards know that the platform has been cracking down big-time on unauthorized usage of copyrighted music to stay above board with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Mostly this means gamers who have music playing in the background. But in this case, TwitchGaming hilariously replaced the copyright owners playing their own song with elevator music!

Many Metallica fans and critics revelled in the irony of Metallica getting DMCA’d considering how vocally Metallica fought against peer-to-peer file sharing in the very early 2000’s several years before streaming music services became the norm.

Here’s the full performance without the muzak.
